Augmented reality on real streets

This isn't a virtual world. It's the one outside your window.

RealSpace divides the real-world map into squares of 12 m² (about 11 by 11 feet), each pinned to real coordinates. Claim one, stand a life-size 3D model on it, and anyone who walks past with the app sees it in augmented reality, right where you put it.

How it works

From an empty square to something the whole street can see.

  1. Claim a square

Your first square is free with a new account: the nearest open square to you. It shows on the map with your name, for everyone to see.

  2. Put something on it

Choose a 3D model from the store and stand it on your square from the camera view. It stays right where you put it, for everyone who passes, until you take it down.

  3. See what's around you

Open the camera and look around. Models stand at their exact spots on the street, placed with Google's ARCore Geospatial API. Some squares hold whole scenes: several models moving together, with sound.

Also in RealSpace

Off the street, too.

  • Try it on your floor

Stand a T-Rex, a flying saucer or a walking astronaut in front of you at life size. Pinch to size it, twist to turn it, and try any store model the same way before you get it.

  • Private places

Keep a model where it stands, seen only by you and the people you invite with a code. It's free for a few days; keeping it for good takes tokens.

  • Follow what you like

Like, comment on and save squares, and follow the people who build them. Block people and report anything that shouldn't be there.

  • Build your own in Studio

Upload your own 3D models and put together scenes on the web, then place them on your squares.

Good to know

  • A square is yours inside RealSpace only. It gives you no rights to the real land or the buildings there.
  • Play safely: watch where you're going while you look through the camera, never use RealSpace while driving, and stay on public ground.
  • RealSpace needs a phone that supports augmented reality, and uses your location only while the app is open, to show what's around you and place things at exact spots.
  • How RealSpace collects, uses and protects your information is set out in our Privacy Policy. Using RealSpace means agreeing to the Terms of Service.
