Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 22, 2026

RealSpace lets you claim real 12 m² squares of ground, design 3D structures for them, and see those structures in augmented reality where you actually stand. That premise only works with real location data — this page is a straight account of what we collect, why, who else touches it, and the real controls you have over it, including two you can use right now.

01What we collect

CategoryWhat, and when
Account infoEmail address, and a display name if you give one. If you sign up with a password, we store a one-way cryptographic hash of it — never the password itself. If you use Google or Apple sign-in, we receive your email and name from them, not your credentials.
LocationPrecise latitude/longitude, when you grant permission — see Section 2.
Standing on a squareWhile the app is offering you a square you're standing on, which square that is — held for about two minutes at a time, and shown to others as occupied without your name. See Section 2.
Content you create3D models you upload, comments and reactions you post, and any structures/sequences you design.
Things you keep privatelyWhen you keep a model privately, exactly where it stands — a precise latitude, longitude and height, which is often your home — which of your private places it's in, and when it stops showing. Also the private places you make or join, who is in each, and the invite codes you create. See Section 2.
Account activitySquares you've claimed, tokens purchased and spent, who you follow, badges earned — the ordinary record of using the app. A token purchase also records which pack it was, what it cost, where it was bought (the App Store, Google Play, or the website), that store's or Stripe's own transaction id, and whether it was later refunded or disputed.
The storeWhich models you've got from the store, when, and how many tokens each cost. A storage plan bought in the app: which plan, the App Store's or Google Play's id for it, when the current month ends, whether it will renew, and whether it was refunded — so we know how much storage you have.
Models you shareWhen you share a model in the store from RealSpace Studio: a copy of the model, the name, description and category you give it, pictures of it rendered in your browser, your confirmation that you may share it, and what review decided (including the automated reviewer's verdict and reasons). See Section 5 for what of this is public.
Device & technical dataYour device model and operating system, the app version, and basic request logs. We don't store your IP address: it's used momentarily to rate-limit requests and then discarded, and our own request logs record which endpoint was called, not who called it or from where. The platform that hosts us keeps its own web access logs, which do include IP addresses, the way any hosting provider's do. An administrator's IP address is recorded, against their own name, whenever they take an action on an account.
Crash & diagnostic reportsWhen the app hits an error it sends us a report so we can fix it: what went wrong and where in the code, your device model, operating system, graphics hardware and memory, the app version, how long the session had been running, and a short trail of the last few things the app did (screens opened, warnings, errors — not what you typed). Each report also carries a random id created when you installed the app, so we can tell one phone's reports from another's; it isn't derived from your hardware, and reinstalling makes a new one. If you're signed in when it happens, the report is linked to your account. We delete these after about 30 days.

We don't buy data about you from third parties, and we don't run advertising trackers.

02Location data specifically

Location is central to how RealSpace works, so we're specific about it rather than folding it into a general clause:

03How we use it

04Who else sees it

We don't sell your personal data. It passes through a small number of services that make the product work:

WhoWhat they get, and why
Microsoft AzureHosts our database and the 3D model files you upload. They store data on our behalf; they don't use it for their own purposes.
U.S. Census BureauWe send only coordinates (never your identity) to price a square against real, public median-home-value data.
OpenStreetMap / NominatimWe send only coordinates to look up a human-readable place name for a square — e.g. a street name instead of raw numbers.
Google ARCoreThe app uses Google's augmented-reality service, ARCore, to work out precisely where your phone is standing and how it's oriented, which is what lets a model sit on the right patch of ground. To do that, Google receives your location and imagery from your camera while the AR view is open, under Google's own terms rather than ours. Google says it stores this temporarily, analyses it in anonymised form, and doesn't share it with third parties. This happens on both Android and iPhone: on Android through Google Play Services for AR, and on iPhone through Google's ARCore software, which is built into the app.
Google / Apple sign-inIf you choose to sign in with either, they verify your identity to us; we never see or store your password with them.
StripeProcesses card payments made on the website — tokens, storage plans and leases. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them. Stripe gets your email address and name to keep your purchases on one customer record, and tells us what was paid, whether a subscription is active, and whether a payment was later refunded or disputed.
Apple (App Store)Processes token purchases and storage plans bought inside the iPhone app, under Apple's own privacy policy. Apple takes the payment and never gives us your card details, address, or Apple ID. What reaches us is the purchase itself: a transaction id, which pack or plan was bought, for a plan when it renews or ends, and whether Apple later refunded it.
Google (Google Play)The same, for token purchases and storage plans bought inside the Android app through Google Play. Google takes the payment; we receive a transaction id, which pack or plan was bought, for a plan its renewal state, and whether Google later refunded it — never your card details or your Google account's payment information.
AnthropicReviews models members share in the store, with an AI model, before a person decides or alongside them. It receives the model's name, description and category, the names of the parts inside the file, its size, pictures of it rendered in the sharer's browser, and the images inside the file — not the sharer's name, email or account. It processes this under its own commercial terms, which don't let it train its models on what we send.
Our email providerDelivers password-reset and email-verification messages. It sees your email address and the message content, nothing else about your account.

We'll disclose account information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of RealSpace or our users.

05What's public by default

RealSpace is, deliberately, a public map. If you claim a square, the square's location, its owner's display name, and any 3D model placed on it are visible to anyone using the app — that's true the moment you claim, with no separate setting to make a square private. A square someone is standing on is also shown as occupied while they're there, without their name (Section 2). The same is true of comments, reactions, and follows: they're posted under your display name and visible to other users. There is also a public activity feed — a rolling list of recent claims, model uploads, comments, follows and badges, each showing a display name, which square it happened on, and when — and it can be read by anyone, including people who aren't signed in and don't have an account. Your email address, password, token balance, and transaction history are never shown to anyone but you. Things you keep privately are the one kind of content that isn't public: they're seen only by the people in their private place (Section 2). A model you share in the store is public once it's approved: its name, description, category, pictures and the model itself, credited to your display name — and it stays available to anyone who already has it if you stop sharing it or delete your account, credited then to "a former member". Which models you've got from the store, and your storage plan, are never shown to anyone but you.

06How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (see Section 7), we permanently delete your uploaded models and any audio you uploaded, your comments, reactions, saved squares, follow relationships in both directions, badges earned, sequences you designed, and any features you'd unlocked. We also delete everything you kept privately, your memberships of other people's private places, and the private places you made — which deletes what everyone else kept in them too — and the record of which models you got from the store. Models you shared in the store leave it, but copies stay with anyone who already had one, credited to "a former member" rather than to you. A storage plan bought through the App Store or Google Play has to be cancelled there; deleting your RealSpace account can't stop Apple or Google charging for it, and its record is kept, like other payment records. Squares you claimed are released back into the unclaimed pool rather than deleted — ground you claimed doesn't vanish from the map, it becomes claimable by someone else, the same as if you'd never existed as an identified owner. We keep a record of token purchases and spending — including refunds, disputes, and the App Store, Google Play or Stripe transaction id each purchase came with — and of storage-plan and lease payments, even after deletion, the same way a bank keeps transaction records after an account closes. This is a financial record, not a personal profile, and it's not linked back to any of your other deleted content. One other thing survives, and we'd rather say so than let you find out: our internal log of administrator actions keeps a copy of whatever an account was called at the time an administrator acted on it, which can include the email address you used. That log exists so that moderation and support decisions stay auditable after the fact, and it is never pruned. It is visible only to our own administrators.

What deleting does, step by step and how to ask for it if you signed in with Google or Apple, is set out on How to delete your account.

07Your rights and controls

Wherever you are, you have the right to access, correct, export, and delete your personal data. We've built both of the two rights that matter most as real, working features you can use today, not just a request you have to email in for:

Export your data — a full copy of everything tied to your account, as a downloadable file. Available now on your account page.
Delete your account — permanently deletes your content and anonymizes your account record. Also available now on your account page, with a confirmation step since it can't be undone. How to delete your account explains what it does and how to ask if you can't sign in.

If you're in the EU/UK, these correspond to your GDPR rights of access, erasure, and data portability. If you're a California resident, they correspond to your CCPA/CPRA rights to know, delete, and correct. If you'd rather reach us directly instead of using the in-app tools, see Section 11.

08Children

RealSpace is not directed to, and is not intended for use by, anyone under 13 years old, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

09Security

Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. Connections to RealSpace are encrypted in transit. Access to production systems is restricted to the people operating the service. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — but we treat a security incident affecting your data as something we'd tell you about, not something we'd sit on.

10Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where required by law, notify you directly.
